ORGANISED litter picking events across Salisbury and Amesbury will now be supported by Wiltshire Council.

Community groups will be able to organise and take part in litter picking in line with the Great British Spring Clean, if the event is arranged with and supported by an area's community engagement manager (CEM).

Once an event is approved, by contacting CEMs on areaboards@wiltshire.giv.uk, specialist litter picking equipment and advice will be provided to sessions.

Following the nerve agent attack last year, the Public Health England (PHE) advice remains in place - "if you didn’t drop it, don’t pick it up" - for non-organised litter picking.

Alongside the initiative support, Salisbury City Council is also reminding residents to not drop litter, as it is harmful to both the environment, animals and hygiene.

Councillor Bridget Wayman, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for highways, transport and waste, said: “We want to support our communities if they decide to go ahead with organised events.

“It is important that communities contact the council to ensure we can support their event and provide equipment to volunteers.

"We hope that community groups will feel supported and that we appreciate the hard work they put in to keep Wiltshire a special place to live and work.”
