GILBERT'S wife has now been named, following a string of dragon- inspired competitions.

The floral dragon returned to its resident spot in Salisbury Guildhall Square last month, and Salisbury City Council challenged National Armed Forces Day goers to think up a first name for his new wife, Mrs Gilbert.

More than 400 names were entered over the National Armed Forces Day weekend, but the official name of Mrs Gilbert is now Matilda, the name decided by four-year-old Jasper.

A second competition also gave Facebook users the chance to win Gilbert goodies including Mr and Mrs Gilbert key rings, a Salisbury City Council water bottle and a crocheted Gilbert, if they 'liked' the council's Facebook page and liked and shared the competition post.

Donna Hall was drawn as the winner of the Facebook competition after being randomly selected from more than 100 entries, and has shared her winnings with son James.
