Three suspected DWI-related crashes in Santa Fe on Wednesday left one man critically injured, two men arrested and a downtown office building damaged.
The most serious involved a collision between two pickups on West Alameda Street near Moore Street, reported shortly after 5:30 p.m. Details were not immediately available from police, but both vehicles sustained front-end damage, a police report said, and one of the vehicles, a blue 1985 Ford pickup, was totaled.
The driver of the Ford, identified as Leonard Garcia, 64, with an address on West Alameda, was critically injured and taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, the report said. Police spokesman Greg Gurule said Thursday afternoon no information was available on the condition of the other driver, a 39-year-old Santa Fe man.
According to the report, officers believed Garcia was impaired while driving but investigators could not confirm it because of his injuries. Hospital staff told investigators that he had a skull fracture, a broken rib, several facial fractures and would lose the use of an eye, the report said.
At about midnight, another crash was reported at the intersection of Cerrillos Road and the on-ramp to northbound Interstate 25, where a gray SUV rolled and was severely damaged, a police report said. The crash took out a light post, the report said.
The driver, Neil Patel of Santa Fe, who is in his early 40s, was arrested on suspicion of DWI and reckless driving, according to the report.
Earlier in the day, 29-year-old Jordan Gonzales of Santa Fe was arrested on suspicion of DWI, careless driving and driving with a suspended license after crashing a silver Toyota Corolla into a law office on the corner of Montezuma Avenue and Cerrillos Road at about 1:30 p.m., a police report said.
