There are 17 quarterbacks in the 2019 class committed to continuing their careers in the SEC beyond this season. All 14 schools have at least one pledged with Alabama, Kentucky and Ole Miss each having two.

Nearly all of the soon-to-be SEC quarterbacks made an appearance in the high school playoffs within their respective states. Some of them are even still competing for a state championship.

Two stars of tomorrow will battle tonight for the 7A state crown in Alabama: Thompson’s Tualia Tagovailoa (Alabama commit) vs. Central-Phenix City’s Peter Parrish (LSU commit). Both are 4-star recruits. AL.com had a detailed look at that matchup.

As we near Early Signing Period (Dec. 19-21), here’s where things stand with each SEC quarterback commit:

(Note: All star ratings are according to the 247Sports composite.)

Alabama

  • Taulia Tagovailoa, 4 stars, Thompson (Alabaster, Ala.): The younger brother of the Crimson Tide’s star quarterback most recently helped rally Thompson for a two-score deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Hoover 31-28 in a semifinal matchup Nov. 23. Tagovailoa will lead Thompson into Alabama’s Class 7A championship game Wednesday night.
  • Paul Tyson, 4 stars, Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.): Tyson, the great-grandson of Bear Bryant, saw his season come to an end with a Nov. 16 loss in the quarterfinals against Thompson and Tagovailoa.

Arkansas

  • KJ Jefferson, 3 stars, North Panola (Sardis, Miss.): The Hogs’ quarterback commit came up just short of a Mississippi Class 3A state title as North Panola lost to Water Valley in the semifinals Nov. 23.

Auburn

  • Bo Nix, 4 stars, Pinson (Ala.) Valley: Nix led Pinson Valley to a 28-20 victory over Clay-Chalkville in the Alabama Class 6A semifinals last week. According to AL.com, he threw for 326 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also became the first player in Alabama high school history to reach 12,000 total career yards. Pinson Valley will face Saraland for the state title Friday night.

Florida

  • Jalon Jones, 4 stars, Henrico (Richmond, Va.): The season recently ended for Henrico in Virginia’s Class 5 Region B championship with a 40-6 loss to Highland Springs. However, Jones’ season ended a couple weeks earlier after he received a 2-game suspension for his part in a fight during the first round of the playoffs.

Georgia

  • John Rhys Plumlee, 4 stars, Oak Grove (Hattiesburg, Miss.): Plumlee and Oak Grove came up just short in the Mississippi Class 6A state title game, falling 31-27 to Horn Lake. Plumlee was impressive in defeat, though, throwing for 348 yards and 4 touchdowns according to Mississippi Today.

Kentucky

  • Nik Scalzo, 3 stars, Cardinal Gibbons (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.): Scalzo saw his high school career end in unfortunate fashion as he sustained a torn ACL in the second round of the Florida Class 5A playoffs. Cardinal Gibbons has still managed to reach the championship game set for Friday.
  • Amani Gilmore, 3 stars, Amite (La.): Gilmore will finish his career inside the Superdome, where Amite will face Welsh in Louisiana’s Class 2A title game Friday. Gilmore led Amite to the championship game with 4 touchdown passes in a semifinal victory last week.

LSU

  • Peter Parrish, 4 stars, Central (Phenix City, Ala.): Parrish threw a 49-yard touchdown pass — one of his 3 scores in the game — with 8 seconds remaining to give Central a 7-point win in the Alabama Class 7A semifinals two weeks ago. And how’s this for some SEC West fun? The Alabama Class 7A championship game will feature a quarterback showdown between LSU commit Parrish and Alabama commit Tagovailoa at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium on Wednesday night.

Mississippi State

  • Garrett Shrader, 4 stars, Charlotte (N.C.) Christian: Shrader capped his high school career with an undefeated season and a state championship in North Carolina’s Division I. He was masterful in the title game, passing for 213 yards, rushing for 179 yards and score 5 total touchdowns according to the Charlotte Observer.

Missouri

  • Connor Bazelak, 4 stars, Archbishop Alter (Dayton, Ohio): Bazelak led Archbishop Alter to Division III state title game appearance in Ohio before being defeated by Kenston last week.

Ole Miss

  • Grant Tisdale, 3 stars, Allen (Texas): Tisdale and Allen are still alive in Texas’ Class 6A Division 1 postseason with a quarterfinal matchup coming this weekend. The Eagles defeated The Woodlands last week as Tisdale completed half of his 18 pass attempts for 146 yards according to the Star-Telegram.
  • Kinkead Dent, 3 stars, Jackson Academy (Jackson, Miss.): Jackson Academy lost to Jackson Prep last month in a Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class 4A Division 1 semifinal. Dent rushed for 3 touchdowns in the defeat.

South Carolina

  • Ryan Hilinski, 4 stars, Orange (Calif.) Lutheran: Hilinski’s team did not make it out of the first round after falling to Southern California powerhouse Centennial in early November. In his final game, Hilinski was 11-of-18 passing for 130 yards and a touchdown. According to the Press-Enterprise, he left the game for good due to injury in the second quarter.

Tennessee

  • Brian Maurer, 3 stars, West Port (Ocala, Fla.): Maurer’s team did not advance to the playoffs. According to MaxPreps, his senior season ended with 3,572 yards, 34 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 65 percent of his passes.

Texas A&M

  • Zach Calzada, 3 stars, Lanier (Sugar Hill, Ga.): Calzada led Lanier to its first appearance in the semifinals of the Georgia playoffs. The Longhorns lost to Lee County last week and came up just short of playing for the Class 6A championship.

Vanderbilt

  • Jamil Muhammad, 3 stars, James Clemens (Madison, Ala.): Muhammad rushed for 191 yards and 4 touchdowns in an Alabama Class 7A first-round game early last month. But that still wasn’t quite enough to beat Tyson, the Alabama commit, and Hewitt-Trussville as James Clemens lost 43-41.
