UFC: Georges St-Pierre hints Khabib fight terms have changed – ‘you can’t take an offer made a year ago’

  • Former champion says ‘the UFC refused, they didn’t want it, so I walked away’ from Nurmagomedov dream bout
  • ‘If I made you an offer and you refuse, it’s fine, but you cannot come back a year after and finally take it’

Georges St-Pierre still wants to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov. It just seems his terms have changed a little.

The UFC legend came out of retirement in 2017 to beat Michael Bisping and become a two-weight champion. But after being denied a dream fight with lightweight champion Khabib, the 38-year-old hung up his gloves again last year.

Dana White has now shown interest in making the fight, however, if the Russian beats Tony Ferguson next, or if that bout falls through.

“If the right fight came along they know where to find me. We tried to make the right fight but it didn’t work,” he told ESPN. “If everything is aligned contractually, as we speak now, yes, I would [come back for Khabib].

“Before I retired, we tried to organise a fight with Khabib. The UFC refused, they didn’t want it. So I walked away. I have other things, I cannot wait and let them take all my time.”

But St-Pierre took a swipe at the UFC for waiting a year to show their interest.

UFC: Dana White ‘interested’ in Khabib against GSP

“It’s like a business deal, when you make a deal and you don’t agree, it’s OK, you turn around and you do other things,” he said. “You cannot come back a year after and say, ‘Finally the offer that you made me a year ago, I take it’.

“That’s not how you do business and the fighting game is no different. If I made you an offer and you refuse, it’s fine, but you cannot come back a year after and say, ‘Finally, I’ll take it’, so that’s how it works for me.”
