Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership (DGHP) has granted funding from its community fund to a Stranraer project to help people move in to their new homes.

Tenants of DGHP, who are on the organisation’s Wigtown District Management Committee (DMC), awarded £4,600 to the Apex Moving-In Project.

The money will help DGHP tenants by providing them with starter packs to get up and running when they get the keys to their new properties.

Gary Small, service development manager for Apex, South West Scotland, said: “DGHP has been the largest referral agency to this service and to receive grant funding of £4,600 from the Tenant Community Fund for moving-in packs has been marvellous.”

Willie Kirsopp, Wigtown DMC member, added: “I am delighted that DGHP’s Wigtown DMC committee were able to support this worthy project that will help many of our tenants in the Stranraer area when they are setting up in their new homes.”

The starter packs include non-electrical items including cutlery, crockery, bedding, curtains, hygiene item, baby and children’s packs and cleaning materials to help DGHP tenants who need assistance to set up home.

Referrals for tenants go to Apex from DGHP staff and is specifically for people in crisis, on benefits and a low income. The wider Apex project also incorporates Wigtownshire Foodbank, in partnership with the Trussel Trust using a voucher system. This also includes household starter packs and access to clothing, toys and hygiene packs.

Anyone looking for more information on the packs can contact Apex Stranraer at 2 Back Rampart, High Street, Stranraer or by telephoning 01776 700 973 or visiting the website at www.wigtownshire.foodbank.org.uk.
