FITCHBURG — Fitchburg State freshman forward Sophia Sousa was named Little East Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

The freshman Falcon earns her first weekly accolade of the season after collecting her first collegiate score for Fitchburg State in a 3-1 setback to New England College on Friday at Elliot Field.

The Fitchburg State field hockey team returns to action Wednesday as it travels to Colby-Sawyer College for a 3 p.m. game.

Read picks up pair of awards

Fitchburg State freshman forward Elizabeth Read was tabbed both MASCAC Women’s Soccer Rookie and Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

The Lowell native picks up her first weekly accolades on the year after posting six points on two goals and two assists in a 1-1 week for the Green and Gold.

Read netted a pair of goals, including her first collegiate tally, in a 2-0 triumph over Dean College on Friday afternoon before adding two helpers in a 3-2 setback to Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday at the 2019 Bulldog Bash at Dean College.

Loyd nabs rookie honor

Fitchburg State freshman forward Alexander Loyd was named MASCAC Men’s Soocer Rookie of the Week on Monday.

The first-year Falcon notches his first weekly accolade on the season, registering his first collegiate goal with the game-tying marker in a 2-2 double overtime draw with Elms College on Friday afternoon after Loyd converted a penalty kick late in regulation.

The men’s soccer team returns to action today as it hosts Emmanuel College at 4 p.m.
