The Fitchburg State University women’s basketball team dropped a 63-30 decision to Suffolk University in non-conference action Wednesday evening at the Parkinson Gymnasium, falling on a poor shooting night.

Suffolk jumped out to an early 11-2 lead on a pair of buckets from junior guard Gabriella DeComo and a 3-pointer by senior Jenni-Rose DiCecco. Sophomore Jadelen Harold snagged an offensive rebound and converted a putback for the Green and Gold to cut the deficit to 22-4 at the end of one frame.

In the second frame, Fitchburg State senior Angelina Marazzi scored five straight points and freshman Lindsay McDonald added a pair from the charity stripe to trail 28-11 at the midway point.

However, the Rams (5-2) closed out the quarter with a 6-1 run capped by a layup from sophomore Natalie Fraioli to take a commanding 34-12 lead at intermission.

Suffolk extended its lead to 38-12 when DiCecco connected for her 1,000th career point with 6:23 to play in the third. The Falcons countered with a three-point play from junior Payton Holmes to trail 48-20 after 30 minutes of play.

Senior Emma Thomson opened the final period for the Falcons with a 3-pointer to propel the Falcons on an 8-3 run, but the Rams finished with a 7-0 to secure the 63-30 victory.

Fitchburg State shot just 8-for-58 (13.8%) from the field and 7.7% (2-of-26) from 3-point range, while the guests went 26-of-72 (36.1%) overall, including (7-for-29) 24.1% from beyond the arc.

The Falcons were paced by McDonald’s nine points and 10 rebounds. Senior Catherine Coppinger had a game-high 12 caroms.

For the Rams, DiCecco led the way with game-best 22 points and seven boards, while DeComo chipped in with 12 points.

Fitchburg State closes out the first semester on Saturday when it hosts Wesleyan at 1 p.m., while the Rams travel to Framingham State on the same day for a 1 p.m. matchup.
