ITANAGAR: Concerned over littering in Itanagar and to keep surroundings clean and healthy, a community based group – Green Media (GM) – organized a cleanliness drive at various locations here on Saturday.

Hundreds of like-minded youths of different age groups participated in the cleanliness drive which they term it as Plogging. Plogging is a combination of jogging and picking up litters. The youths picked up the litters around the Ganga, Secretariat and IG park areas on the day. Speaking to reporters, a member of GM said that Green Media is not an organization or any NGO but is a community where any individual can do a bit to clean the surroundings.

“It is an individual platform where people are really concerned about the environment and could get together and work together as a community,” she said while adding that the idea of GM came up by connecting each volunteers by various means of communication and with a specific idea to create a clean surrounding. She also requested people living in the State capital to come forward for such activity.

“This is our home and being a member of the home, it is also our responsibility and duty to keep surroundings clean by not littering haphazardly. There is no reason to wait for the Municipal to clean our own home,” she added.
