GUWAHATI: The KK Bhatta Road at Chenikuthi in Guwahati is in dire necessity of attention from the authorities concerned. However, for the past one year there has been no improvement in the condition of the road.

The road has craters and it caved in at a spot in such a way that it looks vulnerable for pedestrians and vehicles as well, especially when the road is inundated due to water-logging. This crater of the road gives onlookers an impression that it is the spot where many accidents are waiting to happen during the monsoon that's about to reach the city.

What baffles the people of the locality is that they have knocked the door of almost all authorities concerned to get the road repaired or constructed before the monsoon, but to no avail. Sometimes some cosmetic repair works are done to the road without solving the problem. The road gets submerged when it rains. This amply indicates that the drainage system and the height of the road are not in sync with each other to serve the purpose in a better way.

Like every year, this year also the GMC has started clearing of all registered drains in Guwahati. Under its mission flood-free programme, around 1,000 workers, including labourers are at work to clear the drains of the city before the monsoon. Already joint surveys of the drains with other related departments and satellite mapping of drains have been done so as to show as to how drains have to be cleared.

However, the moot issue is: every year the drains in the city are cleared but the roads are inundated when there are water-loggings. Will the authorities concerned solve the problem of KK Bhatta Road on time, and for that matter, such other roads in the city as well? This continues to remain a question for years together.
