National Green Tribunal asks Dispur to File Affidavit

GUWAHATI: The principal branch the National Green Tribunal (NGT), New Delhi has granted Dispur special leave as sought for and asked it to file its affidavit on the shifting of the dumping ground from Deepor Beel to elsewhere within one week. The order of the NGT said although the video conferencing could not be held in this case also as in the other cases, Additional Advocate

General for the State of Assam Nalin Kohli has appeared and inform the court steps being taken by the State government for shifting the waste dumping site from the Deepor Beel to elsewhere and the impediments faced by the State in doing so. Kohli sought for leave to file an affidavit to place these facts on record. “Leave is granted as prayed for. Let the affidavit be filed within one week from hence,” the order said. Meanwhile, the case has been listed for hearing again on August 5, 2019.

National Green Tribunal Act, 2010 is an Act of the Parliament of India which enables creation of a special tribunal to handle the expeditious disposal of the cases pertaining to environmental issues. It draws inspiration from the India's constitutional provision of Article 21, which assures the citizens of India the right to a healthy environment.
