1,01,960 Crime And Accident Cases In BJP Tenure At Dispur

GUWAHATI: The total number of crimes and road accidents in Assam from 2016 when the BJP came to power at Dispur to January 25, 2019, has been put at 1,01,960.

State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Potwary informed the Assembly of this on Monday while replying to a unstarred query from AGP’s Ramendra Narayan Kalita. He responded to the query on behalf of the Home Minister.

The break-up of the crimes, according to Patowary, is – 38,142 cases of theft, 425 cases of looting, 4,944 rape cases, 17,331 kidnapping cases, 19 witch-hunting cases, 20,088 dowry related cases and 21,011 road accidents.

From May 24, 2016 to January 28, 2019, 36 deaths of civilians due to subversive activities by militants were reported. During the period, 61 militants had to lose their lives at the hands of security personnel in encounters, including three deaths in mob violence.

In Guwahati, from 2016 to January 25, 2019, crimes and road accidents reported have been – 9,928 theft cases, 19 looting cases, 182 rape cases, 1,769 kidnapping cases, 110 dowry cases and 2,686 road accidents.
