251 sedition cases registered in Assam

GUWAHATI: A total of 251 cases of sedition have been registered across the State after the BJP-led coalition government assumed the reins of power in Dispur. This was revealed in a reply given by the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs (on behalf of the Home Minister), Chandra Mohan Patowary. The point was raised by the Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia during Question Hour on Monday. The maximum number of 43 sedition cases has been registered in Chirang district followed by Tinsukia (40 cases), Cachar (19 cases), Golaghat (18 cases), Dima Hasao (11 cases), five cases each in Biswanath and Dhemaji while one case is registered in Kamrup (M).

The militant organizations named in the sedition cases are ULFA (I), NDFB-S, NSCN-IM, DHD, UPLFS, and ZUF; besides some individuals.

Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) activist Kamruz Zaman has been mentioned in a sedition case registered in Hojai. Another fundamentalist organization that has a sedition case registered against it is Jamat-ul-Mujahideen (JuM).
