All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) demands to appoint specialist doctors in village PHCs

JOYSAGAR: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Sivasagar subdivision committee has demanded to appoint doctors in various rural government hospitals of Sivasagar subdivision. Without doctors, rural people have to face a lot of problems getting proper healthcare in the village PHCs.

In Charing PHC, Konwarpur PHC, Chakimukh PHC, Khanamukh PHC, Namti PHC and Akhoiphutia PHC there are allegedly no specialist doctors and hence the PHCs are not able to provide satisfactory service to patients. In many PHCs of Sivasagar subdivision, the specialists doctors visit only twice a week or on a part-time basis. The AASU has therefore demanded the Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner as well as the Sivasagar Joint Director of Health Services to look into the matter and to take necessary steps for helping the poor rural people get proper healthcare facilities. The Sonari regional AASU and ATASU members also demanded appointment of specialist doctors in Sonari Urban Civil Hospital as the hospital is also running without a regular specialist doctor since long.
