Asia's cleanest village in Meghalaya underwater: CM assures of taking urgent measures

Shillong: Mawlynnong, the Meghalaya village of ‘cleanest village in Asia’ fame, too has come under the grip of the flood. The latest reports on Meghalaya flood states that the tourist attraction is submerged by a flood that has taken place due to the incessant rain experienced in the state from several days.

As entire Northeast is experiencing heavy rainfall since a few days, Meghalaya too is one among them with severe issues being created in and around the state due to the incessant rain. Right from flash floods to landslides, Meghalaya is largely affected by the heavy downpour. As a maximum number of tourists makes Meghalaya a hot tourist spot, especially during the summer holidays, the heavy rainfall has been disturbing and affecting the state tourism. Tourists are finding it pretty difficult to plan a trip to Meghalaya. As almost all tourist spots based in the state are either submerged by flood or are heavy rainfall are troubling the sight-seeing, tourists are compelled to drop their plans to visit the tourist hub.

As Mawlynnong is one of the most visited sites in the state for its unmatchable cleanliness and natural beauty, heavy downpour are affecting tourists from visiting the spot. To make it more adverse, the tourist spot is now inundated with flood water for which visiting the place has been a distant dream for the visitors.

The village, controlled by the Pynursla community development block, that falls under the Vidhan Sabha constituency is a good tourist revenue earner. The issue of flood in the village has bothered the Chief Minister of the state Conrad K Sangma as well. Conrad has assured the MLAs of Phulbari and Rajabala of taking all necessary measures to relieve the Mawlynnong villagers and tourists. Flood in other plain belt areas of the hill state too has been considered by the CM.
