Assam Elections: Rise in voters 22,119; 4,261 ‘D’ voters in List

GUWAHATI, Sept 16: The draft electoral roll of four Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) in Kamrup (Metro) district published by the district election officer on September 15, 2018 has registered a rise in 22,119 voters. The total number of voters in the new draft roll in the four LACs in the district stands at 10,52,186 against 10,30,067 in the draft electoral roll published on October 16, 2017.

The numbers of male and female voters have shown rises, but that of third gender has remained unchanged at 39. The last draft electoral roll of the four LACs in the district published on October 16, 2017 had January 1, 2018 as the base year. The four LACs of Kamrup (M) districts are – Jalukbari, Dispur, Guwahati East and Guwahati West.

The latest draft electoral roll has 5,28,387 male voters against 5,18,342 in the last draft electoral roll, thus it has registered an increase of 10,045 male voters.

The latest draft electoral roll has 5,23,760 female voters against 5,11,686 in the last draft electoral roll. Thus the new draft roll has registered an increase of 12,074 female voters. However, there has been no change in the number third gender voters that remained unchanged at 39.

The highest rise in voters in the new draft roll has been noticed in Dispur LAC with an increase of 9,472 voters. In the new draft roll the number of voters in the LAC stands at 3,72,062 against 3,62,590 in the last draft electoral roll. Next to Dispur is Guwahati West that has registered a rise of 5,819 voters. The new draft roll has shown the number of voters in the LAC as 2,69,397 against 2,63,578 in the last draft electoral roll. Guwahati East has also shown a rise of 3,675 voters in the new draft roll that has 2,21,394 voters against 2,17,719 voters in the last draft electoral roll. Jalukbari LAC has shown the least number of increase in voters amongst the four LACs in the district. It has registered an increase of 3,153 voters in the new draft roll that has 1,89,333 voters against 1,86,180 voters in the last draft electoral roll.

The number of D voters shown in the new draft electoral roll published on September 15, 2018 is 4,261 – 66 in Jalukbari LAC, 2,235 in Dispur LAC, 272 in Guwahati East and 1,708 in Guwahati West LAC.

While Jalukbari LAC has 94,535 male, 94,790 female and 8 third gender voters; Dispur LAC has 1,87,859 male, 1,84,192 female and 11 third gender voters; Guwahati East has 1,10,908 male, 1,10,471 female and 15 third gender voters; and Guwahati West has 1,35,085 male, 1,34,307 female and 5 third gender voters.

The latest draft has 1,195 polling stations in the four LACs – 243 in Jalukbari LAC, 404 in Dispur LAC, 344 in Guwahati East LAC and 304 in Guwahati West LAC.

While the final electoral roll of the four LACs in the district will be published on January 3 and 4, 2019, the public can lodge claims and objections from September 15 to October 31, 2018. All claims and objections will have to be disposed of by November 30, 2018.
