Concern over illegal hill Excavation near Assam-Nagaland border

MERAPANI: Illegal hill excavation under a top forest officer along the Assam-Nagaland border has caused concern among the conscious section of people. Sources added that anti-social activities were going on at Sildubi hills in the geographical periphery of Jorhat district near the Assam-Nagaland border.

Hill excavation is going on for road construction at Ghilahari, Borhola, Nagabat and some other border areas of Golaghat and Jorhat districts. Sources alleged that the hill excavation was being carried out in total violation of rules by a contractor with the support of a forest officer. Different voluntary and non-voluntary organizations have condemned these activities and urged the government to take action against illegal excavation.
