‘Dispur failing to solve disabled person ’s problems’,alleges Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha

GUWAHATI: “The present BJP regime has completely been failing in resolving the issues raised by the disabled persons of the State. Under this given situation, we have decided to boycott the ensuing International Day of Disabled Persons on December 3,” said Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha general secretary Nripen Malakar.

Talking to the newsmen on Wednesday at the Guwahati Press Club, Malakar said that in response to a protest demonstration carried out on February 7, 2017 by the Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, State Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal hold a meeting on the same evening with the protesters and assured to resolve their demands. “Accordingly the Chief Minister announced to provide one time medical allowance to the tune of Rs 5,000 to 4.5 lakh differently abled people of the State. However, only 130,000 disabled persons have received the allowance so far. Majority of the disabled persons are still to receive the opportunity as per the announcement,” Malakar said.

Malakar further stressed that Minister Pramila Rani Brahma’s written assurance to publish advertisement for recruiting as many as 4,419 posts lying vacant for the disabled persons has turned into a gimmick. “For not having a logical answer to deny the concern of the disabled persons, Dispur employs police forces to dominate the democratic movement of the disabled persons, Malakar said.

Malakar also demanded to take immediate action against the erring police officers who assaulted the disabled protesters on October 5, publish advertisement for recruitment of 4,419 posts, release the pension of Rs 1,000, provide housing to the disabled persons and initiate construction of rest house for the disabled persons as per assurance before December 1. “Otherwise, we will be compelled to boycott the ensuing International Day of Disabled Persons on December 3,” Malakar added.
