Inauguration of modern garage and other amenities in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) inaugurated a series of public facility centres in the city on Thursday to offer better services to the general public of Guwahati. In its continued endeavor to improve the sanitation level and waste management facilities in the city, GMC inaugurated a Community Toilet at Ulubari below the stadium flyover, Waste Transfer Station at VIP Road and a state-of-the-art Garage at Basistha Chariali.

Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Minister of Education, GDD and Law and Justice Deptt, Govt of Assam inaugurated these centres in the presence of Monalisa Goswami, Commissioner Guwahati Municipal Corporation along with Deba Kumar Mishra, Addl Commissioner, Dwijen Singh, Addl Commissioner, Tasdiqur Rahman, Chief Engineer and Manojit Bujorbarua, Executive Engineer from GMC. The community toilet was set up by Guwahati Refinery, Indian Oil as a CSR initiative wherein Jogen Barpujari, Executive Director (i/c), Guwahati Refinery also handed over garbage transporting tricycles to GMC. The waste transfer station facility at VIP Road will be used to collect and segregate the collected garbage and further disposed of to the dumping ground. This will decrease the garbage handling load at the dumping ground at Boragaon. Lastly, the garage facility at Basistha Chariali will be used to park all the GMC vehicles at a single location which will improve monitoring and vehicular movement for GMC services.
