International Music Performance Enthralls Audience in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The third edition of the Guwahati International Music Festival, Northeast India’s pioneering and biggest home-grown musical property, was organized in Guwahati on February 8.

Organized by the Eastern Beats Music Society, in collaboration with North Eastern Council, Government of India, the 3rd edition of Guwahati International Music Festival showcased various workshops, lecture-demonstrations and a film screening during the day. The event ended with global musical performances in the evening.

A huge crowd gathered at Pragjyoti ITA Centre for Arts, Machkhowa in Guwahati to be a part of the festival. Assamese filmmaker Bidyut Kotoky’s award-winning film ‘Guns and Guitars’ was screened for the first time in the Northeast, during the festival.

More than 150 artistes from four countries performed in the festival giving a tremendous boost to people-to-people connectivity through culture as envisaged in India’s Act East Policy. A number of spectators from different parts of the globe also came to watch the festival.

Talking about this year’s event, Eastern Beats Society founder, secretary and GIMF curator Aiyushman Dutta said, “After a hiatus of four odd years, it is truly an exuberant feeling to host Northeast India’s pioneering home-grown property.”
