Korean Cigarettes Seized In Guwahati City

GUWAHATI: Chota Hathi carrying foreign cigarettes has been caught in Guwahati! It sounds strange. However, it’s a fact that happened at Boragaon under Gorchuk Police Station in Guwahati on Saturday night.

A Chota Hathi carrier van was caught on its way to Kamakhya Railway Station on Saturday night. The van had nine bags containing 9,030 packets of foreign cigarettes – Esse Lights – made in Korea. The estimated market value of the cigarettes is around Rs 18 lakh.

According to the police, the consignment bound for New Delhi was brought to Guwahati from Manipur by bus yesterday. Two persons carrying the consignment – Anurag Chandel (27) of Old Delhi and Shaibal Das (33) of West Tripura – hired the Chota Hathi van for carrying the bags to Kamakhya Railway Station. The consignment was bound for New Delhi.

The police handed over the cigarette and the two persons carrying them to the Customs.
