Question Paper Leakage: Differently Abled Gherao Dispur Police Station

GUWAHATI: Persons with disabilities gheraoed Dispur Police Station on Tuesday in protest against, what they said, the inaction on the part of the police into the FIR lodged in connection with the allegations of leakage of question papers in the examination meant for filling up of vacancies for persons with disabilities.

Pratibandi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) secretary Nripen Malakar had lodged an FIR at Dispur police station on June 23 requesting the police to investigate into the allegation that he (Malakar) had leaked the question papers of the special recruitment drive for physically-challenged candidates. A case (1854/19) was registered to that effect. The recruitment drive was conducted on June 9, 2019 under the supervision of the Police Recruitment Board. The PSSA also requested the DGP and the Guwahati Police Commissioner to speed up the investigation into the case. However, there was no progress in the investigation of the case. The protest was staged on Tuesday under the banner of the PSSA.

Talking to the media on Tuesday, PSSA secretary Nripen Malakar said: “On July 7, I received a threat to my and family members’ lives from an unknown caller. The caller asked me not to involve myself with the demands of persons with disabilities. I did lodge an FIR (case No. 2010/19) to that effect too. However, none of the culprits in both the cases has been arrested so far.”

ADCP Nabanil Mahanta and ACP Himangshu Das talked to the agitating PSSA members and assured them of arresting the culprits within 48 hours. The PSSA called off the agitation on the condition that they would resort to a vigorous agitation if the promise made is not met.

Working president of the Dristiheen Parishad, Assam (DPA) Nipul Kalita, PSSA working president Amrit Saharia and others took part in the agitation.
