Steps to boost rural tourism in Arunachal Pradesh

MECHUKA: Mechuka has been a popular tourist destination in recent times but there are few places in and around Mechuka where tourism has not yet percolated.

Looking into the matter, in the recent celebration of National Tourism Day with the theme, "Adopt a Village for Model Tourism Implementation", the Department of Tourism has adopted Dechengthang Village of Shi-Yomi District.

Inaugurating the village as a 'model village', ADC Mechuka Dr Manjuli Komut congratulated the villagers for being selected as a Model Tourism Village. She in her speech emphasized on protecting the local culture, food, and the architecture that has so much to offer to tourists.

Tourist Information Officer, Bishal Aran explained the aims and objectives of the programme and also urged all to keep the village clean and plastic free and ban hunting of wild animals and birds. He further explained the importance and the benefits of operating home stays for the local populace and sought cooporation from the village community for successful implementation of tourism projects to make the village an example for others to emulate.

ADO Norbu Naksang, BEO Jigme Onge also spoke on tourism prospects of the village. Activities like local cuisine, handicraft items, artefacts and identification of tourist attraction places in and around the village were taken up on the day.
