Tender apology before CJI: Tarun Gogoi tells Dispur

GUWAHATI: Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has said that Dispur should tender an apology before Chief Justice of India Justice Ranjan Gogoi.

The demand from the former Chief Minister came close on the heels of the Chief Justice of India facing an awkward situation regarding his security at Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati recently when BJP’s national president and MP Amit Shah was also visiting the shrine at the same time.

Talking to the media in Guwahati on Monday, Gogoi said: “According to protocol, the Chief Justice of India is next to only the President of India, the vice President and the Prime Minister. On the other hand, Amit Shah is just an MP. However, during the recent visit to the shrine by the two, Dispur accorded more importance to Shah than the Chief Justice of India. Moreover, since the Chief Justice of India is from Assam, the first from the Northeast to have held such a post, Dispur should have accorded him more importance.”
