World Accreditation Day Celebrated In Guwahati City

GUWAHATI: “Accredited inspection, testing or certification is not only important for promoting confidence in them but has become a vital tool in international trade by facilitating acceptance of certifications and test reports across borders.” This was stated by Dr USN Murty while speaking in the celebration of the World Accreditation Day in Guwahati as the chief guest on Monday. He said that quality is important from product to process to market to consumer throughout the supply chain.

Speaking on the occasion, AK Nath GM, (Quality Control), IOCL, who chaired the technical session, stated that evaluation of conformity is the mantra for businesses in today’s world and all businesses need to use accredited conformity assessment in India to avoid or reduce risks to business.

The World Accreditation Day, which actually was on Sunday, is a global initiative, jointly established by the international bodies, International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), to raise awareness of the importance of accreditation among stakeholders. Each year a theme is finalized and the theme this year focuses on an important part of commerce which is supply chain and how accreditation adds value to supply chains.

Supply chains play a vital role in delivering products and services for consumers, business and the public sector in a timely and cost-efficient manner while upholding high quality. Supply chains are constantly evolving from complex systems crossing multiple borders to new and diverse supply chains aimed at ensuring all stakeholders’ requirements are met, including the need for ensuring sustainability and responsible supply. Accreditation and, with it, other quality infrastructure tools such as standards, metrology and conformity assessment, provide widely accepted mechanisms that help deliver value to the supply chain. These tools help with trust and assurance, enabling confidence in both final products and services and the manner in which they are placed on the market and used.

The three accreditation boards under the Quality Council of India: National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB), National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET), National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) organised the celebrations simultaneously at four locations in Delhi, Mumbai, Guwahati, and Chennai.

NABCB accredits inspection and certification bodies and has secured international equivalences for its accreditation schemes for Inspection, Product certification including GlobalGAP for good agricultural practices and Management systems certifications for Quality (ISO 9001), Environment (ISO 14001), Food safety (ISO 22000) Information Security (ISO 27001), Energy Management (ISO 50001) and Occupational Health & safety (ISO 45001). Thus India boasts of world class accreditation infrastructure which is leveraged by regulators like FSSAI, BEE, CDSCO etc and in International trade. The presence of NABCB or NABL logo on a certificate or inspection report or test report signifies that it is accredited and acceptable globally. The programme also highlighted the risks of unaccredited and unauthentic certifications in the market, a press release stated.
