Anganwadi, ASHA Workers Want Regular Salary, Better Job Avenues

ITANAGAR: The Joint Committee of Anganwadi and ASHA Workers (JCAAW) demanded on Sunday that the State government must immediately release the salary of Anganwadi and ASHA’s salary on regular basis.

Addressing reporters at Press Club here, committee president Yasi Sonam said that it has been six months that the Anganwadi and AHSA workers have not got their honorarium, whereas the Central government had already released the fund three month in advance.

She said that the non-release of honorarium in time has hampered the workers’ economic status as they could not meet their daily domestic needs.

“As per the Central government’s guidelines fifty per cent reservation for Anganwadi and ASHA workers should be kept who have served for more than 10 years on the post of supervisors,” she said while demanding the State government to make provisions for the promotion of Anganwadi workers.

They also demanded that the State government must create Gramsavika/Supervisor post in the greater interest of the workers community.

Demanding the release of renovation fund for the Anganwadi Centre at the earliest, the committee also said that the National Food Security Act identified the Anganwadi Centre responsible for ensuring the food and nutrition for mother and children. And approximately 6225 Anganwadi centres are running in the State. Unfortunately most of the centres are in a deplorable condition; among which 50% are completely dismantled due to poor infrastructure, she added.

“According to guideline of State government no officers and staffs should stay in same place for more than two year, as such the State government should transfer CDPO and supervisor of Anganwadi on a rotation basis,” the committee appealed the State government to look into the matter. The demand also included steps for promotion of the qualified and experience ASHA workers to the post of ANM nurse attendance to boost the working spirit of ASHA workers.
