District-Level Monitoring Committee Meet Held in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: The district level monitoring committee (DLMC) meeting for implementation of solid waste management rules, 2016 and plastic waste management rules was held at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday under the chairmanship of DC (in charge) Lobsang Tsetan.

Urban Development Department executive engineer of the district VP Singh in his address informed on the implementation of solid waste management and plastic waste management rules and sought cooperation from all the stakeholders to implement the rules to secure the future of the people, an official release informed.

Assistant engineer Phurpa Lhamu through a powerpoint presentation on actions taken by the urban development department informed that segregation of dry and wet waste at source has been made mandatory from June 24 this year.

“The department has also introduced the bio-degradable plastic garbage bags of 50 microns and above for a collection of dry waste and wet waste in biodegradable bags. We have prepared a compost pit for the dumping of wet waste at garbage dumping site,” she said adding, the department had purchased a garbage destruction machine of 500 kg per day capacity for burning of dry and waste.

During open discussion and suggestions from members present, it was decided that social service twice a month is to be continued on every second and fourth Friday of the month. The in-charge DC in his deliberation called upon the people to shoulder their responsibilities to keep their surroundings clean and hygienic.

President of NGO Environmental Protection Society (EPS) Jambey Dondu in his address requested the district administration to form a flying squad to check illegal use of polythene bags by shopkeepers, the release added.
