Bongaigaon: Dr Zoii Nath Sarma has returned back to Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). “It was my mistake to leave the AGP and to join the Congress,” he said during the open meeting of the 35th foundation day of AGP celebrated centrally in Gandhi field of Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon district on Monday.

“AGP is my native home. I am very happy today to get back to my home after a long period of about three years. I was not happy there in Congress. But due to some injustice done to me at that time by some of our leaders who are now holding portfolios of some national party, I had left the AGP. But today, after re-joining the AGP I am very happy. I will work here with my full dedication to strengthen regional power,” he said.

The 35th foundation day of AGP was celebrated on Monday in Abhayapuri of Bongaigaon district where several noted persons, including party president Atul Bora, former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, MLA Phani Bhusan Choudhury, Bhupen Ray and Tankeswar Rabha, CEM of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, were present. The programme started with flag hoisting by Atul Bora. Along with this, another 34 flags were hoisted by senior persons. After this, tribute was paid to the martyrs. Then a programme ‘Satirtha Sowaran’(Remembering friends) was conducted in the memory of the martyrs of the Assam Agitation. The open meeting was held in the Jayanta Barua Memorial Stage and it was presided over by Atul Bora.

Addressing the gathering, Atul Bora said that the only way to bring proper development to Assam was to empower the regional party. “This regional feeling will make us united for maximum development,” he said. He welcomed the former AGP members who had left the AGP once and now had returned back.

Phani Bhusan Choudhury said that many other former AGP leaders like Zoii Nath Sarma, who had left the AGP once, were ready to return to the party. “This will increase our power and will inspire us to do more work for Assam. We are always with the people of Assam and people believe us. Today’s mass gathering here in this field has proved that the people of Assam have faith in us and wants us,” Choudhury said.
