First Mixed Martial Arts Academy Opened in Arunachal Pradesh

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Minister for Youth Affairs Mama Natung along with former minister Nabam Rebia and MMA coach Sidharth Singh inaugurated the first Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), academy of the State –Abrasumente Academy MMA and Fitness – here at Ganga Itanagar on Tuesday.

The academy is founded by Higio Taarak, who is also a professional trained MMA. He was the National Jiu-Jitsu champion in 2018. He won the Gold Medal at the Delhi State Grappling Championship in 2016.

“Abrasumente” is taken from the Spanish proverb “Abrasumente a la Realidad” which translates to “Open your mind to reality”.

Inaugurating the first State MMAA academy, Natung expressed happiness at the opening of the first mixed martial arts in the State.

“Our youth have a lot of potential in the sport. The only thing we need to do is to tap it and channelize in the right direction. I am happy that our youth are making Arunachal proud.

Minister Youth Affairs and Sports, who himself was a Karatekas, informed that the State Government is giving priority on youth affairs and sports and a considerable amount of fund has been allocated to promote the sports like wushu, boxing, karate, and badminton.
