BSF holds Medical Camp at Umsyiem Village, Shillong

Shillong: The BSF will be celebrating its 54th Raising Day on December 1. In the run-up to mark the celebration, a series of events are being conducted under Meghalaya Frontier with an aim to inculcate a sense of security and fraternity among the border population.

On November 15, as part of the celebration and an initiative by BSF to improve the health standard of the border population, a medical camp was organized at Umsyiem Village. During the camp, about 400 villagers of Jaliakhola, Sanghat, Muktapur, Naljuri, Bakur, Dawki, Pyrdwah, Lyngkhat, and Kongwang of East Khasi Hill were treated by a team of BSF doctors. Medicines were distributed free of cost to the patients.

A 0.5-km mini marathon was flagged off by SR Khan, Comdt, 30 BN. The race started from GREF Tri Junction to ICP Dawki.

In another event, the BSF organized essay writing, drawing competition, football match, running competition, in which 150 students from St Jeorge Pataghat and RKM School Ryngku participated. These events was graced by BSF men, headmen, principals, doctors and elicited rousing response of about 300 spectators from village Ryngku, Partharghat and Hat Mawdan East Khasi Hill.

UK Nayal DIG/PRO FTR HQ BSF Meghalaya also stated that a friendly football match will be organized in the coming days between border youths of bordering villages under sector HQ BSF Jowai and villages under Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Sector Sylhet, Bangladesh and many other programme for border villages are planned in the coming days.
