West Jaintia Hills Police Held 6 for ‘Suspicion Murder’

SHLLONG: Six persons were arrested on suspicion of killing a mentally unstable man in West Jaintia Hills district, police said on Tuesday. According to West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Lakadr Syiem, information was received that on October 13, one mentally challenged person by the name of Riwano Passah (44), a resident of Iawmusiang, Wahnangbah, Jowai, was suspected to be assaulted and beaten to death by some of his relatives. Immediately on receiving the information, an enquiry was conducted and place of occurrence was visited and suspected items have been accordingly seized.

During further enquiry, it was learnt that Passah was buried on the next day i.e, on October 14 at around 4 to 5 pm without any knowledge or intimation to the police.

As the case was suspected to be of murder, six of his relatives were detained for questioning in connection with the case. Similarly, a suo moto FIR has been filed and a case will be registered accordingly. Investigation of the case is in progress.
