New Mexico COVID-19 Cases: 21,016

Over the weekend, health officials reported 436 new cases and 12 more deaths

Over the weekend, New Mexico health officials reported 436 new positive test results for COVID-19: 210 on Saturday and 226 on Sunday. The new cases bring the statewide total so far to 21,016, with 8,343 designated as recovered by the health department.

Bernalillo County continues to have the highest number of new cases: 129 this weekend. Doña Ana County had 46 new cases and Lea County had 37.

Santa Fe County had 34 new cases over the weekend: 15 on Saturday and 19 on Sunday. There have now been a total of 595 cases here, of which 226 have been designated as recovered by the health department.

The state also announced 12 more deaths, nine on Saturday and three on Sunday. There have been 654 fatalities.

As of today, 127 people are hospitalized with COVID-19—seven fewer than yesterday—and a steady decline since July 28, when 160 people were hospitalized.*

  • A female in her 90s from Bernalillo County who was hospitalized, had underlying conditions and was a resident of Spanish Trails Rehabilitation Suites in Albuquerque
  • A male in his 50s from Doña Ana County. who was hospitalized
  • A male in his 80s from Doña Ana County who was hospitalized, had underlying conditions and was a resident of Welbrook Senior Living in Las Cruces
  • A male in his 70s from Eddy County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions
  • A male in his 60s from Lea County
  • A female in her 70s from McKinley County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

Statewide cases

State news releases over the weekend issued corrections for the COVID-19 statewide totals. On Saturday, the state reported previously reported numbers had included 11 cases that have been identified as duplicates (three in Bernalillo County, one in Chaves County, two in Curry County, one in Doña Ana County, one in Eddy County, one in McKinley County and two in Sandoval County) One case in Doña Ana County was not lab confirmed. Two cases in Doña Ana County that have been identified as out-of-state residents. On Sunday, a news release reported that previous numbers included five cases that have been identified as duplicates: one in Curry County, one in Lea County, two in McKinley County and one in Roosevelt County. One case in Bernalillo County  was determined to be an out-of-state resident. County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.
