Bobby Hunter stands down from Shetland Charitable Trust

The chairman of Shetland Charitable Trust has announced he will stand down from his post in May.

Bobby Hunter

Bobby Hunter, the Lord Lieutenant of Shetland, had been in the top job at the trust for around seven years.

His successor will be appointed in June.

The trust – set up to distribute money from the oil industry to local causes – has paid out £300 million to charities, organisations and individuals.

Bobby Hunter is pictured here with a picture of Baden-Powell behind him. Perhaps both may be best regarded within the dominant values of their respective times.

Bobby will have been congratulated by some for ensuring Shetland’s charitable funds remain available for an industrially led approach to development in Shetland. Another approach view’s giving the people of Shetland a say over the use of their charitable funds as a development goal in itself.

Being without a chair until June suggests Shetland’s Charitable Trust may be incapable of taking or overturning any substantial decisions until later in the summer at the earliest. Time will tell whether that was a good or a bad thing.

Well, there we go, maybe all irrelevant now. “Bobby Hunter goes along with his exalted Viking Energy!!
Could this be the end of Bobby and Viking Energy? Clair Perry ( Minister of State for Energy and Clean Growth) today on Radio 4 PM. “Offshore wind cost dropped by half over the last two years. The great thing about offshore wind farms is that they are near big population centres. It is cheaper now to get offshore than onshore Energy. ” What a terrible legacy from the founder of The Viking Energy Supporters Group” and SCT chairman to cut and run at this. I could be rude and refer to sinking ships and rodents but singling out Bobby would be a bit unfair. There is a whole nest of Ratters, Wills and ex Councillors a who have now resigned, costing us all so much, not just the £10 million, but the unity of Shetland folk. What a legacy Bobby and his SCT pals leave! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0002zr8
