Marine / New Valhalla heads to the fishing
A WHITEFISH trawler new to her Shetland owners was making her first trip in tough weather on Tuesday.
Valhalla (LK 687) headed for the grounds north east of Unst in calm conditions on Monday night, with a forecast for freshening wind.
The 18m long steel trawler was bought by skipper Ivan Garriock as a replacement for his old vessel that has been sold to Broadford.
The replacement vessel is a beamy 2003 build Macduff Shipyards design that can either single or twin rig trawl.
It had been fishing in the English Channel the past few years and sailed north from Brixham last week.
Valhalla is powered by a Caterpillar 3412 engine rated at 447kW, is 7m in the beam and has a registered length of 16.4m.
