STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- On Saturday, thousands of people across the country will participate in the 2020 Women’s March.

The theme of the fourth annual event is “Rise and Roar," a culmination of partnership, unity and solidarity. This year, two women’s march groups in New York City will join efforts to “rally for change” -- Women’s March NYC and Women’s March Alliance.

Two events, featuring performances and speakers, will take place simultaneously on Saturday at Foley Square from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Columbus Circle from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. NY1 reporter Amanda Farinacci and Amoy Barnes, who works for the Department of Education, will be the Foley Square event’s speakers; both have Staten Island ties.

Borough-based organizations like Move Forward Staten Island and Staten Island Women Who March plan to travel to the march via the Staten Island Ferry. Those interested can meet at the St. George Ferry Terminal in time for the 9 a.m. boat.

The Women’s March first began in January 2017 as a protest to the inauguration of President Donald Trump. It was the largest single-day protest in U.S. history, according to The Washington Post, with over 3 million people attending.
