He’s accused of barging into Berry Houses apartment, shooting man in face
A 28-year-old man with a criminal record stands accused of bursting into an apartment in the Berry Houses in Dongan Hills and shooting a man in the face while a woman and two young children were present.
George Washington of Campbell Avenue, West Brighton, was arrested at the 122nd Precinct stationhouse on Wednesday morning in connection with the assault on Nov. 20 at about 6 p.m. in the apartment complex on Jefferson Street, according to the criminal complaint and police.
Cops: 2 women nabbed for alleged possession of guns in a car on Staten Island Expressway
The New York State Police report they caught two women with loaded guns in a car on the Staten Island Expressway.
Anna Nevarez, 46, of Moonlight Way, Chesapeake, Virginia, and Ashwnti Jones, 28, of Truxton Avenue, Portsmouth, Virginia, are accused in the incident that occurred on Tuesday at about 11:30 a.m. on the New Jersey-bound Staten Island Expressway near the Clove Road exit, according to the criminal complaint.

Teen is 3rd suspect in Cargo Cafe arson; gas poured on building, source says
A 17-year-old male is the third suspect accused of setting a fire that burned the Cargo Cafe in St. George in February, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.
The fire was started with gasoline, the source said.
Prosecutors filed a motion to keep the teen’s case with the district attorney’s office, but the court denied the motion and transferred his case to Family Court due to his age, a spokesman for the D.A.'s office confirmed.

Police identify man, 30, fatally shot in Stapleton; gun found at scene, source says
One person is dead after a shooting in Stapleton Tuesday night, police say.
An NYPD spokesman said a 30-year-old man was found on Vanderbilt Avenue, near the intersection of Osgood Avenue, with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso.
The NYPD identified a man who was fatally shot in Stapleton as David Pena, 30, of Clifton.
Police responded to a report of a person assaulted in front of a building on the 100 block of Osgood Avenue on Tuesday at about 8:38 p.m., according to an NYPD statement.
Pena had suffered several gunshot wounds to his torso when he was found by police.
Tottenville man pleads to gun charge after home raid near precinct
The news is mixed for a Tottenville couple busted on gun and drug charges in a home raid seven months ago.
Mark Miranda, 33, faces two years behind bars after pleading guilty to a weapon charge.
However, Alexis Rivera, 35, is poised to have the case against her dismissed.
The defendants were arrested on May 14 in an apartment on the 200 block of Main Street.
‘No cop should have gun pointed at him,’ judge tells armored man shot by NYPD
His high level of intoxication notwithstanding, there was no excuse for him to raise a gun at a cop, a judge told a defendant Thursday at his sentencing.
“The bottom line is no police officer should have a gun pointed at them,” Justice Mario F. Mattei told Patrick Allen. “If you point a gun at a police officer, there’s going to be consequences. In this case the consequences are going to be more severe than if he had just possessed a gun. I think a harsh sentence is what’s necessary.”

Laura Covell, a Dongan Hills resident, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, according to police.

A Staten Island family is suing a local funeral home, claiming they were handed someone else’s ashes under the belief they were those of their father.
Following the death of Steven Penchenski, 55, of Tottenville, on June 30, 2012, his family made arrangements with Harmon Home for Funerals in West Brighton for their father to be cremated, according to the civil complaint filed Tuesday by his four children in state Supreme Court, St. George.

Cameras installed inside a Sunnyside home as a safety measure have apparently backfired on the homeowner, who says a hacker used the cameras to spy on her 13-year-old son.

Police in Massachusetts arrested two Staten Island men on Tuesday after the pair allegedly scammed an 85-year-old grandma, the Norwood Police Department said.
Mark Gabra, 20, of the 100 block of Mulberry Circle in New Springville, and Ali Almashhadani, 21, of the 200 block of Westervelt Avenue in New Brighton, allegedly targeted the Norwood grandmother via a phone scam, police said.

Rafael Casimiro, 37, who public records indicate is from Mariners Harbor, was observed selling cocaine to another individual, the NYPD spokesman said.
