SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT- Here’s a fun fact: The Southeast Region representative at the Little League World Series has yet to allow a hit or a run during tournament play.
The South Riding, Va., pitching staff has been terrific, and has only been topped by the team’s bats, which have produced 14 runs in two games.
Their success thus far sets up the marquee battle to date at the Little League World Series, as the Virginia side will try to extend its run at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when it faces the other unbeaten U.S. team, Wailuku, Hawaii, which represents the West region.
Their game will follow a 3:30 p.m. contest between Japan and South Korea, the remaining two unbeaten international teams. That, again, is on Wednesday.
Maracaibo, Venezuela, and Curacao remain alive in the losers bracket in the international bracket by posting wins Monday. They will play at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Venezuela came from behind to eliminate Guadalupe, Mexico, 8-7, while Curacao was doing the same to British Columbia, Canada, 8-1.
Three U.S. teams remain alive in the loser’s bracket. The schedule was changed after Sunday’s suspended game between Elizabeth, N.J., and Hawaii had to be resumed Monday. Hawaii won, 6-0.
New Jersey will play Barrington, R.I., at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will play River Ridge, La., at 11 a.m. Wednesday. River Ridge eliminated Coon Rapids, Minn., Monday night, 10-0, in four innings.
