Weather Forecast June 14: Recurving Vayu to bring heavy rains and strong winds over Gujarat coast

June 13, 2019 7:08 PM |

Starting with Central India, the Severe Cyclone Vayu is now moving in a Northwest direction and is expected to gradually turn towards the North Arabian Sea. We now expect, the wind speed as well as rain over coastal areas of Gujarat to start decreasing gradually. Yet, this Cyclone has the potential of giving strong winds to the tune of 80-100 kmph. Moderate to heavy rains are possible in Porbandar, Somnath, Junagarh and Dwarka. Interior parts of Gujarat and coastal Maharashtra might also receive light to moderate rains with one or two intense spells. Isolated rain and dust storm may also occur in South and Southeast Rajasthan. Scattered rains are possible in Chhattisgarh. The weather in Madhya Pradesh and Interior Maharashtra will remain almost dry. Temperatures will increase once again over Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha.

Moving on to South India, fairly widespread light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells are expected over coastal Karnataka and Kerala. Good rains are possible in Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Some areas in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana might also receive rains. Heavy rains are going on in coastal Karnataka. Monsoon is likely to reach Coastal Karnataka soon.

Talking about East and Northeast India, a Cyclonic Circulation can be seen over Meghalaya and its adjoining areas. A Trough is extending from Northeast Uttar Pradesh up to coastal Odisha across Bihar and West Bengal. In view of these systems we expect light to moderate rains at many places in Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Isolated heavy rain cannot be ruled out in the region. Odisha and Eastern parts of Bihar may also receive scattered rains. On the other hand Jharkhand, east Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal will observe dry weather conditions.

Lastly in North India, in the absence of any significant weather system, the conditions in the plains of Northwest India are going to be dry. Day temperatures may increase marginally, and heat wave may make a comeback over parts of Haryana, parts of Delhi and more parts for Rajasthan. A Cyclonic Circulation can be seen over Central Pakistan, but it will not have any impact in the Northern Plains other than isolated light rains over Jammu and Kashmir.
