Coming up: Heavy rain and snow in Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand; avalanche alert issued

Since the beginning of the Year 2019, The Hills of North India have been witnessing good rainfall and snowfall activities. In fact, since the beginning of January, at least six active Western disturbances have approached the Western Himalayan region giving rainfall and snowfall over the entire Hills of North India including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Several parts of North India have observed 100% more rainfall than usual. Not only has Jammu and Kashmir seen such rainfall but some parts of Uttarakhand have also been added in this list.

Now, another fresh and active Western Disturbance has approached Jammu and Kashmir due to which, cloudy weather has been observed over the Hills of North India and in the last 24 hours parts of Jammu and Kashmir have seen light rainfall activity as well.

Today afternoon onward, most parts of Jammu and Kashmir will start to see rainfall and snow activities. The intensity of these activities will increase gradually and by evening Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will also see some weather activity.

As per weatherman at Skymet Weather, around January 31, Leh, Ladakh, Kargil, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Kinnaur, Kullu, Manali, Shimla, Dharamsala, lahaul Spiti, Rohtang Pass, Chamoli, Gangotri, Yamunotri and Kedarnath will see heavy snowfall activity.

There are chances of avalanches and landslide which may cause closure of several roads and highways.

Weather for the upcoming week

During the next few days, the hills of North India may see intense weather activity due to which normal life may come to a standstill. Due to heavy snowfall, minimum temperatures me fall below zero degree at many places. Drinking water may also not be easily available at some parts.

Around February 1, Western disturbance will move eastwards due to which weather activity will reduce. However, the after effects of heavy snowfall will continue to cause problems. Moreover, around February 4, a fresh and very active Western Disturbance will once again approach the Hills of North India due to which heavy rain and snow will once again make an appearance over the hilly States wreaking havoc over the region.
