Dust storm in Rajasthan

The state of Rajasthan has been reeling under severe heat wave conditions since the last many days. Yesterday also, Churu recorded its maximum temperature above 50 degrees Celsius. In fact, most places in Rajasthan are recording their day temperatures between 47 and 49 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, season’s first cyclone in the Arabian Sea – Vayu has finally formed. This weather system is moving north/northwestwards towards the Saurashtra coast. Vayu will become a Severe Cyclonic Storm by tonight and further by tomorrow it will lash heavy to very heavy rains over many parts of Saurashtra in Gujarat.

In wake of the above weather system, we can say that relief is in sight for the state of Rajasthan as well. Due to changes in wind direction, today isolated dust storm and thunderstorm activity will occur in parts of Rajasthan, leading to a marginal drop in temperatures over the region.

By tomorrow, these weather activities will increase over northern and eastern parts of Rajasthan. Therefore, we can say that on June 12 and 13, scattered dust storm followed by rain and thundershower activities will occur over many parts of Rajasthan.

Weather Alert: Heat wave and dust raising winds associated with strong winds will prevail over Ajmer, Alwar, Baran, Barmer, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Churu, Dausa, Dungarpur, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jalor, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Jodhpur, Karauli, Kota, Nagaur, Pali, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sawai Madhopur, Sikar, Sirohi, Tonk and Udaipur during the next 24-36 hours.

These weather conditions will subside the hot weather and lead to abatement of heat wave from few parts of Rajasthan. But still isolated pockets may still continue to reel under heat wave like conditions with high maximum temperatures.

Moreover, according to some models, after reaching Gujarat Coast, cyclone Vayu will start weakening and recurve in northeast direction towards Rajasthan. So southwestern parts of the state may witness heavy to extremely heavy rains on June 15 and 16. However, we still have to wait for 48 hours to know the exact scenario.
