Inhabitants of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh witnessed first heavy snowfall between November 1-3. The credit goes to season’s first active Western Disturbance. Thereafter, there has been passage of successive Western Disturbances, but they were not active enough.
Another active Western Disturbance was seen on November 13 and 14. At that time, widespread rain/snowfall was witnessed across the Western Himalayan range. However, since then the weather has gone dry again.
At present, a feeble Western Disturbance is seen over Jammu and Kashmir, which has given light rains over isolated places of Jammu and Kashmir and parts of Himachal Pradesh only. Moreover, the system is now moving away eastwards. Thus, we expect dry weather to prevail over entire Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand once again.
As per experts, although another Western Disturbance is approaching on November 22, but being feeble in nature, only isolated rain and thundershower activities are possible over Jammu and Kashmir and parts of Himachal Pradesh. Weather of Vaishno Devi, Katra will also remain dry and cool.
This is the right time to visit hills before the final onset of winters. Such dry and cool weather conditions will continue to prevail for one more week or so. No heavy snowfall is to be seen for coming week or so.
As per the weather models, another active Western Disturbance will be seen around November 28. This system is expected to give moderate snowfall over parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh like Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Leh, Dras, Srinagar, Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Dalhousie, Manali and Rohtang Pass. Light snowfall activity can also be witnessed over Shimla.
According to weathermen, whenever there is a long gap between two consecutive Western Disturbances, the cold north-westerlies start to blow continuously over the northwestern plains of the country, also reaching to Central India.
This is the time when northwestern plains and Central India come under the grip of chilly winds, leading to fall in day and night temperatures.
