Dust storm, thundershowers in Punjab and Haryana in wake of Cyclone Vayu

Dust storm in Punjab and Haryana

Punjab and Haryana have been a large rain deficit until June 10. Although, isolated rains have occurred in parts of Punjab during the month of June with dry weather in Haryana. Thus, Haryana stands at a whooping deficiency of 92% and Punjab too is largely deficit by 77%.

Heat wave conditions have been prevailing over many parts of Haryana for the last few days. Almost entire Punjab and Haryana recorded temperatures above normal. Yesterday Ludhiana, Patiala, and Hisar recorded maximums around 46°C with Narnaul recording 48.3°C. These high temperatures were due to the continuous flow of dry and hot winds from the West and Northwest.

At present, a Western Disturbance is over the northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir with induced Cyclonic Circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab. A trough from this system is extending up to East India across Haryana and North of Delhi.

Now, in the wake of Cyclone Vayu which is likely to intensify into a Severe Cyclone Vayu by today evening, moisture feed from the Arabian Sea has also strengthened in the form of southwesterlies.

This, in turn, would lead to scattered dust storm and thundershower activities over Haryana and isolated places of Punjab. The experts have to say that these pre-Monsoon activities would help in bringing down the mercury by two to four degrees during the next two days.

Weather Alert for Haryana

Dust storm and thundershower with the strong gusty wind will occur at some parts over Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Faridabad, Fatehabad, Gurugram, Hisar, Jhajjar, Jind, Mahendragarh, Mewat, Palwal, Rewari, Rohtak, Sirsa and Sonipat.

The experts mentioned that it would be a short term relief and once again there will be a recurrence of pre-Monsoon activities around June 15 and 16 as the Cyclone Vayu makes landfall in a span of next two days around Gujarat coast.
