Moderate to heavy showers have already made an appearance over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the last 24 hours as had been reiterated by Skymet Weather. Moreover, three digit rainfall has also been observed in some pockets during the same time frame.

Cooch Behar saw 59.4 mm of rainfall, Darjeeling 22 mm. Talking about Sikkim, the capital city Gangtok recorded 29.2 mm of rainfall, Mangan saw a whopping 50 mm of rains, and Tadong recorded 29 mm rain.

Currently, the eastern end of the axis of Monsoon trough has shifted northward towards the foothills of the Himalayas. Due to this shift in the trough, moderate to heavy showers along with a few very heavy spells of rains are likely over both Sikkim and Sub Himalayan West Bengal for at least two to three days.

Moreover, due to these rainfall activities, the possibility of lightning strikes, landslides along with flash floods cannot be ruled over these areas. Cities of Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Tadong and several others are likely to witness these rainfall activities.
