Heavy rains to lash Ludhiana, Amritsar, Chandigarh during the next 48 hrs

August 17, 2019 10:04 AM |

Rain in Punjab

Yesterday’s Well Marked Low-Pressure Area over Northeast Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh now lies over South Haryana and adjoining North Rajasthan. A Western Disturbance is moving as an upper air system across North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. Also, the Axis of Monsoon Trough is moving across Anupgarh, centre of Well-Marked Low-Pressure Area, Gwalior, Satna, Daltonganj, Digha and then towards the northeast Bay of Bengal.

Due to the interaction of the Well-Marked Low-Pressure Area and the Western Disturbance, the Trough line is likely to shift again towards North. These three systems in tandem will give moderate to heavy rains over many parts with isolated very heavy spells. These spells will be accompanied with strong gusty winds to the tune of 40-50 kmph.

The foothills like Chandigarh, Rupnagar, Nawanshahr, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Kapurthala may receive heavy to very heavy rains during the next 48 hours. Whereas, moderate spells will be seen over rest parts of the state.

During the last 24 hours, the state has received moderate rains at many places with isolated heavy spells. Like in the past 2 4hours, Amritsar and Patiala recorded 26 mm and 19 mm of rains, respectively. At present also the rain is being witnessed over many places and intermittent rains will continue throughout the day.
