Kolkata and Coastal Odisha to observe thunder clouds, Patna and Ranchi to remain dry and hot

May 18, 2019 2:08 PM |

Due to the flow of northwesterly warm winds, since the last few days, parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and South West Bengal are observing above normal day and night temperatures. In fact, places like Gaya, Patna and Daltonganj are almost facing heat wave like conditions.

Even though the wind pattern over the coastal parts of North Odisha and South Bengal including Kolkata has changed, but south/southwesterly moist winds which are providing excess moisture over the region has increased the uneasiness in most parts of East India.

Currently, temperatures in the eastern parts of India are close to 37 degree Celsius, but with excess humidity of more than 65%, the day temperatures feel like more than 40˚C. This condition may also lead to heat stroke in few parts of East India.

At present, a cyclonic circulation lies over Northeast Bihar and a trough is running from this system up to North Odisha across central parts of West Bengal. As this trough is likely to move further eastwards, incursion of more moisture may lead to thunder cloud development over Coastal Odisha and few parts of South West Bengal including Kolkata after 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Patna, Gaya, Ranchi and parts of Bihar and Jharkhand will continue to experience heat wave type conditions. Weather will remain dry and very warm.
