Parts of Chhattisgarh witnessed rain and thundershower activities accompanied with strong winds , wherein heavy rains have been reported in Jagdalpur, during the last 24 hours.
According to the data available with Skymet, Jagdalpur has recorded 57 mm of rainfall, followed by Rajnandgaon 29 mm, Ambikapur 11.5 mm and Bilaspur 0.8 mm of rainfall, in the last 24 hours, from 8:30 am on Sunday.
These rains were a result of a Trough, that has been extending from East Bihar up to Andhra Pradesh across Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
As the above Trough is still prominent over the region, on and off scattered rains would continue in many parts of Chhattisgarh, particularly over central and southern parts of the state. On the other hand, isolated light rains will occur in the northern districts of Chhattisgarh.
Places like Jagdalpur, Rajnandgaon, Ambikapur, Bilaspur and Raipur will witness these weather activities.
The rain intensity will gradually increase during the next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, rains will taper over the region.
Moreover, in the wake of increased cloud cover and subsequent rains, weather will become somewhat comfortable over the southern districts. The good news is heat wave would abate completely from the state and the temperatures are expected to settle below 40℃. However, isolated places might record soaring temperatures i.e. above 40 degree mark.
Usually, by this time, Monsoon covers the state of Chhattisgarh entirely. However, due to its sluggish progress, it has not made its presence felt until now over the state, but taking into the consideration, increasing rainfall activities and favourable conditions, Monsoon is expected to reach the southern districts of the state within next three to four days.
