Rain in Punjab

After experiencing a prolonged hot and dry spell till June 15, most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh are currently observing comfortable weather conditions, due to the occurrence of dust storm followed by rain and thundershowers along with strong winds.

In the wake of rains and change in the wind pattern, the day temperature dropped by a couple of degrees to settle below normal in the region.

During the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, fairly widespread rain and thundershowers activity was witnessed in the northwestern plains of India including the states of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. During this period Ambala recorded 23 mm of rain, followed by Hisar 13 mm, Ludhiana 12 mm, New Delhi 11 mm, Jaipur 4 mm, Amritsar 3 mm, Meerut 2 mm and Chandigarh 0.8 mm.

Now we expect isolated dust storm followed by rain and thundershower activities accompanied with strong winds to occur in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh till tomorrow. Thereafter, the weather systems will move away and the weather condition in the northwestern plains of India will start clearing up in terms of clouding and rain.

Weather Alert: Dust storm with rain and thundershowers associated with strong winds (40-60 kmph) will hit Amritsar, Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazila, Firozpur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Moga, Muktsar, Pathankot, Patiala, Rupnagar, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Sangrur, Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar and Tarn Taran the districts of Punjab during the next 6-8 hours.

Weather Alert: Spells of rain and thundershowers with gusty winds will occur over Ambala, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Faridabad, Fatehabad, Gurgaon, Hisar, Jhajjar, Jind, Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mahendragarh, Mewat, Palwal, Panchkula, Panipat, Rewari, Rohtak, Sirsa, Sonipat and Yamunanagar the districts of Haryana during the next 3-4 hours.

Weather Alert: Dust storm and thundershowers will occur over Ajmer, Alwar, Barmer, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Churu, Dausa, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Jaipur, Jalor, Jhunjhunu, Jodhpur, Karauli, Nagaur, Pali, Rajsamand, Sawai Madhopur, Sikar, Sirohi, Tonk and Udaipur districts of Rajasthan during the next 2-4 hours.

However, we expect a cyclonic circulation to form over central parts of Rajasthan, leading to isolated weather activities in the northern parts of Punjab and Haryana. Places like Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Ambala, Kurukshetra and Karnal may continue to witness isolated rain and thundershowers till June 21.

The weather condition in the region will become dry thereafter leading to an increase in day temperature that might again touch the 40 degrees Celsius mark. Heat wave conditions may also make a comeback.
