After much anticipation, Southwest Monsoon 2019 has finally hit the state of Gujarat. The southern districts of the state are experiencing fairly widespread moderate to heavy showers. The northern limit of Monsoon is passing via Veraval and Surat, moving towards Indore in Madhya Pradesh.
Usually, by June 10, Monsoon reaches the southern districts of Gujarat and by June 15, it covers the entire state, barring some parts of the Kutch region, but this year, the arrival of Monsoon has been delayed by 15 days. Now, as Monsoon 2019 has finally made its presence felt, good rains are in store for Surat, Valsad, and Bhavnagar and Veraval.

Rain in Gujarat had taken a backseat after the exit of the Cyclonic Storm Vayu. The state has been witnessing dry weather since then, barring the last 24 hours, wherein the region has observed some scattered showers. These showers remained mostly confined to Bhuj, Surat and their adjoining areas. However, with some major systems persisting in the vicinity of the state, we expect rainfall activities to intensify and monsoon to arrive anytime now.
In the last 24 hours, from 8:30 am on Monday, Deesa has recorded 4.2 mm of rainfall. Ahmedabad also observed 2.2 mm of rain during the same period.
According to Skymet Weather, a Cyclonic Circulation is marked over the Northeast Arabian Sea. A Trough is also extending from the Gujarat coast up to the Kerala coast.
As a combined effect of these systems, rainfall activities will increase over south-coastal Gujarat, particularly in Surat, Valsad, and Bhavnagar. There are chances of scattered showers in Gandhinagar, Baroda, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Mehsana as well, while isolated rains stand a chance in the northern districts of the state.
According to our weathermen, these activities will continue until June 28, signalling that Monsoon may mark its onset anytime now.
On the contrary, the Kutch region will remain mostly dry, with the possibility of some isolated showers.
In the wake of these activities, temperatures will subside, however, high humidity may cause some discomfort to the residents.
