The state of Punjab and Haryana experienced dry weather conditions, during the last 24 hours. During the morning hours, minimums decreased by 2˚C to 3˚C over these states. In fact, due to fog and low clouds, sky conditions were obscured, as the fog layer has settled down in the lower levels.

Now during the next 24 hours as well, we expect similar weather conditions to persist over most parts of Punjab and Haryana.

At present, a Western Disturbance lies over northern parts of Pakistan and its induced cyclonic circulation is seen over central parts of Pakistan. In the wake of these weather systems, during the next 48 hours, Punjab and northern parts of Haryana will receive light spell of rain and thundershowers.

However, since in quick succession another Western Disturbance is also approaching the hills and plains of North India, these rain and thundershower activities will increase from February 20, and cover most parts of both these states.

Northern parts of both the states will receive more rains as compared to the southern parts. Moreover, on 21 February, rain intensity will be the highest and during this period we also except hailstorm to occur in isolated parts.

Rain and thundershowers accompanied with isolated heavy spells and hailstorm will occur over Amritsar, Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Fatehgrah Sahib, Firozpur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Mansa, Muktsar, Pathankot, Patiala, Rupnagar, Sangrur, Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar, Tarn Taran districts of Punjab and Ambala, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Faridabad, Fatehabad, Gurgaon, Hisar, Jhajjar, Jind, Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mahendragarh, Mewat, Palwal, Panchkula, Panipat, Rewari, Rohtak, Sirsa, Sonipat, Yamunanagar districts of Haryana from February 18 evening February 22, 2019. Peak activities are likely on February 20 and 21.

In the wake of this prolonged and intense rainy spell, several crops in parts of Punjab and Haryana are likely to get damaged.
