Rain in Northern Hills

Updated on August 25, 10:20 am: Light rains and thundershowers have been experienced at scattered places over Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh in the last 24 hours. The state of Jammu and Kashmir also experienced rains at isolated places.

Presently, the western end of Axis of Monsoon Trough has shifted away from the foothills towards South, while a feeble Western Disturbance is still persisting over northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir region.

Due to the presence of these systems, the hilly states are again gearing up for a rainy spell today. The three hilly states might experience light rains and thundershowers at scattered places.

Whereas, Jammu region, as well as southern parts of Himachal Pradesh, are likely to remain warm and uncomfortable due to high humidity.

Updated on August 25, 10:20 am: At present, a fresh feeble Western Disturbance lies over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir as an upper air system. This system is inducing weather activities over entire Northern Hills and scattered rainfall has already been received in parts of South Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Further, we expect rainfall to continue over Uttarakhand and eastern parts of Himachal Pradesh like that of Mandi, Shimla, Solan, Nahan, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal, Dehradun, Almora, Nainital and Bageshwar.

These areas might receive moderate rains and thundershowers. A few areas might even receive isolated heavy spells.

Already rains have been a bane in the recent past when a huge damage to life and property was induced over the hilly states. Flooding, landslides and cloud bursts had become newsmakers for quite some time.  Blockage of roads and National Highways led thousands of tourists stranded.

These upcoming rains might slow down the restoration processes and will induce further damage over these areas. The rains are however likely to decrease after 24 hours over most places. So, we expect the situation to gradually improve after 48 hours.
